Master Plumber Department Manager

As a Master Plumber department manager, your role is to oversee the operations of the plumbing department within a company or organization. You will be responsible for managing a team of plumbers and ensuring the efficient and effective completion of plumbing projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise a team of plumbers, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize work to ensure timely completion of plumbing projects, maintenance, and repair tasks.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Evaluate plumbing systems, identify issues, and recommend solutions to improve efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with other departments, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth workflow, timely project completion, and adherence to specifications.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to provide plumbing expertise and support during the planning and design phases of construction projects.
  • Monitor inventory levels and equipment maintenance, and ensure the availability of necessary tools, materials, and supplies for the plumbing department.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to plumbing systems and ensure compliance.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to plumbers, including troubleshooting complex issues and offering training opportunities for professional development.
  • Foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and encourage professional growth and engagement within the plumbing department.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and retention maintained to meet customer needs
  • Nexstar Service System process being used by all plumbers as taught
  • Quality control audits implemented to ensure work is performed in accordance with company practices, processes, workmanship and efficiency
  • Reviews and monitors upcoming work to be performed in order to maximize productivity and dispatch prioritization by opportunity
  • Examines technician Summary of Findings for coaching opportunities
  • Performs curbside feedback
  • Perform Nexstar 1:1
  • Serves as a liaison between customers, technicians and staff on technical issues regarding products and services
  • Conduct weekly ride alongs
  • Participates on management team as a healthy team member
  • Monitors schedules
  • Ensure material/equipment stocked and maintained on trucks
  • Ensure labor and material percentages on income statement are within correct margin
  • Direct and supervise field technicians
  • Focus on customers and delivery of service
  • Work alongside plumbers and dispatch to ensure overall success of the department
  • Actively participate in training and meetings
  • Maintains material, equipment and truck inventories
  • Instructs on Nexstar Service Systems process and hold team accountable for revenue goals.
  • Educate on technical questions and troubleshoot customer concerns ensuring highest levels of satisfaction
  • Assist in completing jobs accurately and timely
  • Manage team schedule to meet ongoing customer demand
  • Onboard field technicians 

Requirements

  • Valid Master Plumber license or certification.
  • Proven experience as a supervisor or manager in the plumbing industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using plumbing tools, equipment, and software.
  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure high-quality workmanship.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and Install Plumbing Systems: Efficiently put together and set up plumbing systems, ensuring precision and functionality in installations to meet residential or commercial needs.
  • Repair Plumbing Systems: Diagnose and fix issues in plumbing setups, addressing leaks, clogs, or malfunctions promptly to restore proper functioning and prevent further damage.
  • Troubleshoot and Repair Pipe and Pipeline Systems: Identify and resolve problems in pipes and pipelines, employing effective troubleshooting techniques to ensure smooth water flow and prevent disruptions.
  • Maintain and Repair Septic and Commercial Sewer Systems: Conduct regular maintenance and repairs on septic and commercial sewer systems, ensuring they operate optimally and meet health and safety standards.
  • Prepare Written Work Cost Estimates for Customers: Skillfully assess project requirements and provide customers with detailed written cost estimates, offering transparency and clarity in financial expectations.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to relevant plumbing codes and regulations, guaranteeing that all installations and repairs meet legal standards and safety requirements.
  • Customer Communication and Satisfaction: Foster clear communication with customers, explaining plumbing issues, proposed solutions, and cost estimates, aiming for customer satisfaction and trust in services.
