It’s Your HVAC’s Birthday!

hvacbirthday

It’s very fun and exciting when birthdays are approaching. Growing older is a new phase of your life and an opportunity to set new goals and improve yourself. However, your appliances and products getting older aren’t so much fun at all.

In fact, it’s quite disappointing when you realize your HVAC’s birthday is right around the corner. The older they get, the more likely they are to wear and lose their function. It’s important to pay attention to the life of your appliances and make sure you have new HVAC installations if necessary.

Lifespans of HVAC Systems

Heating and cooling systems have improved greatly over time. As they age, they do require repairs and need improvements. However, modern HVAC systems last much longer than older models and require less maintenance over the years.

Older HVAC systems would last only a few years until they needed to be repaired or even replaced. They required lots of maintenance and generally didn’t last too long. Newer HVAC systems differ in how long they can last, but they are much more improved and effective. Here are some common HVAC equipment types and their life expectancies:

  • Air Conditioners: They can last typically up to 15 to 20 years. However, depending on your location and the environmental factors, these can require replacement earlier. For example, more salt in the air will lead to an earlier life expectancy- closer to 10 years.
  • Furnaces: You can keep your furnace for quite a while if you take care of it properly. The life expectancy is around 20 to 30 years or even more than that. Keep in mind that this is common for gas furnaces. Oil furnaces last half that amount- 10 to 15 years.
  • Heat Pumps: The average duration of a heat pump is around 10 to 20 years. Remember that the more you use it, the sooner it’ll require replacement.

Should I Get a New HVAC System?

While many people believe that HVAC systems can last very long, the reality is that after a couple decades or even sooner, your HVAC system will need a replacement. Taking into account the above-mentioned lifespans, you should prepare yourself to replace the HVAC systems. It’s better to get this taken care of before the parts start to break down, as this will require more maintenance, increased damage, and higher costs.

Benefits of a New HVAC System

Getting a new HVAC system installed provides a wealth of benefits. Monetarily, you’d be saving lots on your new system as compared to maintaining your old one with several repairs throughout the years. You’ll also experience safer, cleaner air with a new HVAC system as it can filter out harmful particles better. A new and improved HVAC system can also remove your stress and worries of having to constantly repair them, which is a great and worthwhile advantage.

Is Your HVAC System Too Old?

If your HVAC system is reaching old age, it’s a good time to get it checked and possibly replace it with a new HVAC installation.
